BioBeam - low level narrow band light treatment in vitro studies

biobeamlowlevel

BioBeam Light Treatment makes use of the healing properties of narrow band light at the 660mm and 940mm regions of the spectrum. BioBeam is backed up by more than 10 years of research and clinical tests in the major hospitals in Israel. During these tests more than a thousand patients were treated with the BioBeam.

BioBeam is offered in 3 versions: BioBeam.660 (Red) is used to heal severe wounds such as diabetic ulcers, bed sores (decubitus), venous ulcers, post-operative wounds and different type of gangrene. It has been found to be effective in over 80% of the cases and has saved many patients from amputation. A recent study have proved its effectiveness in Herpex simplex treatment.

This device is now in regular use in many clinics in the majority of hospitals in Israel (plastics, surgery, orthopedy, endocrinology, dermatology etc.), in geriatric hospitals and homes for age people, and is also used by individuals for treatment at home.

BioBeam 940 is used to alleviate rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis pains, joint problems, discus, sinew and ichias inflammations , in department such as physiotherapy, rheumatology, orthpaedy etc.

BioBeam Acne is used in treatment of acne vulgaris.

All versions are very handy and safe to use so that in most cases the patient can treat themselves. A flexible arm stand is available to permit more convenient treatment in clinics and for spots which are difficult to reach. The market is therefore both professional, i.e clinics and doctors, as well as private, for use at home, with out medical supervision.

Although no side effects were noted, we do not recommend treatment of patients who suffer from cancer and we warn the users not to look into the illumination head.

2.Clinical Test Reports
The following reports are available :
a.Evaluation of the degree of effectiveness of BioBeam Low Level Narrow Band Light on the treatment of delayed post-operative wound healing. (ORTHOPEDICS SEP. 92, VOL 15, No 9, 1023 – 1026).

Double blind study Evaluation of effectiveness of BioBeam on skin ulcers and post-operative wound. Result - % of improvements : placebo – 41% I.R – 58%; red – 89%.

b.Evaluation of the degree of effectiveness of BioBeam Low Level Narrow Band Light on the treatment of rheumatological diseases.

c.Research : Influence of BioBeam device on patients with Acne Vulgaris (Double blind study).

Dr. Earon Gideon manager of Earon clinics.
Dr. Avikam Harel manager – pediatric Dermatology outpatient clinic Dana Medical Center. Ichilov Hospital.

This paper was accepted at the Sixth International Congress on Pediatric Dermatology (Canada Jun 92’).

Thirty Patient were examined.

Ages : 14-36
Female : 21 Male : 9

Results of 6 weeks treatment :
BB-660 Group:
20% - Complete recovery
50% - Almost Complete recovery
20% - Conderable improvement
10% - No improvement

Nodules cure – Very significant (p=.02)

Control Group
67% - Slight improvement
11% - Considerable improvement
11% - No improvement

d.Acne vulgaris treatment with BioBeam 660.
Clinical trial on 53 patients suffering from acne vulgaris.
The patients were divided into five groups according to the duration and mode of the treatment. Two more groups were treated combining phototherapy with medication. The result, following six weeks of treatment, showed a significant improvement in the group trated twice a day for six minutes by continuous wave (cw). The time reaction to the treatment was shortened by adding Minocyline (Minocin Lederle) 50 mg twice a day. According to these results, BioBeam 660 treatment alone or together with minocycline should be considered a valid and effective treatment for Acne Vulgaris.

e.“Low Level Narrow Band Light Treatment of Acne Vulgaris” by the staff of the Dermatology Department of the University of Florence, under supervision of Prof. C. Vallecchi – head of the department.

In this study 10 patients were treated for 5 minutes, twice a day, at each location, for a period of 6 weeks. At the end of the 6 weeks, 7 out of the 10 patients showed a significant improvement. (In general, we recommend a treatment of 6-8 minutes per session).

In their conclusions, the staff of the Dermatology Department stated that the BioBeam 660 treatment is a valid alternative to conventional treatment.

As we know, the conventional treatment has the disadvantage of side effects.

f.Herpes Simplex Treatment with BioBeam 660

In this study eighteen patients suffering from recurrent herpes simplex infections were selected for a pilot study designed to evaluate the effectiveness of 660nm light phototherapy on the course of herpetic skin lesions. Time to loss of crust and patients’ judgement were criteria used to evaluate efficacy. The average time of healing during light phototherapy was 3.13 days (SD=1.29) from the beginning of treatment as compared with 10.68 days (SD=3.47) when topical treatments were used in the same patients in previous attacks. This difference was proved to be statistically significant p>0.0001, and the patients impression defined treatment as very good or excellent in the majority of these cases. No side effects were reported during treatment.

660nm light phototherapy seems to be an effective and acceptable, as well as safe treatment for herpetic skin lesions.

g.Pain and disability improvement in elderly patients with degenerative osteorthrities of knee treated with narrow band light therapy.
Double blind study.

50 patients with degenerative osteorthrities of both knees, were randomly allocated in three groups, and treated with 660nm 940nm infrared or placebo light emitting diods. The treatment was applied to both sides of the knee for 15 minutes twice a day. Pain and disability were evaluated before and at the end of ten day self-applied treatment. Significant improvement in pain relief emitters over the placebo group. Reprint from the journal of American Geriatric Society (Jags 40 : 23-26, 1992).

h.“Ease of pain and disability in elederly patients with degenerative osteorthrities of the knee treated by Narrow-Band Light Therapy” by the department of physical therapy, sackler faculty of medicine, Tel-Aviv University.

In this study two groups of patients suffering from degenerative osteorthrities of the knee, were treated for 2 weeks.

One group of patients were treated by physiotherapy only, whereas the other received both BioBeam treatment and physiotherapy, identical to the one given to the first group.

Results had shown a significant improvement in both groups during the treatment itself. But this improvement retained for a month after the check-up test only by the group receving both BioBeam illumination and physiotherapy, whreas the group treated by physiotherapy only, had sown regression to almost pre-treatment state.

i.Low energy narrow band non-coherent infrared illumination of human semen and isolated sperm. (Andrologia 23, 181-184, 1991).

62 samples of human normal and abnormal semen and 23 samples of washed sperm were illumination for 4 minutes with i.r light. Motility grade increased from 2.17 ± 0.75 to 2.58 ± 0.79 p< 0.005.

j.Preliminary report on healing of chronic large ulcers (20cm median lengh) with red narrow band light treatment. By Dr. Israel Klein manager of Harzfeld Geriatric Hospital.

Double blind multi center study at the Belinson Hospital (Israel) and Women College Hospital (Canada).
